Warren Maporisa
About me
My name is Warren Maporisa, known on stage as Wamsubhulubhu Nxa—a name that signifies something good, divine, and visionary, yet touched by the pain of rejection. Born on January 14, 1998, in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, I am the eldest of three siblings. My sister Nomatter and brother Tadiwa look up to me, and in 2021, I married and now await the birth of my first child.
Unity Through Music: Blending Afro Jazz, Zim Dancehall, Reggae, and Gospel
My artistic journey began in 2005, influenced by my family’s creativity and my mother’s guidance. Our home resonated with Christian hymns every night, fostering my love for music. I find inspiration in nature, especially in the mountains and caves. The COVID-19 pandemic restricted my access to these places, challenging my creativity. As a spiritual guide, I draw from the stories of those I help, like in my song „Kugara Uchimunetsa,“ which tackles domestic violence.
Unity is the core of my music. I blend Afro Jazz, Zim dancehall, reggae and gospel, using traditional instruments like the mbira and bosvo. Songs like „Vaindanyararidza“ reflect my struggle with familial rejection, aiming to inspire resilience in others.
A Testament to Perseverance, Unity, and the Power of Music
Zimbabwean culture, known for its hospitality, deeply influences my work. Though I haven’t explored myths or legends in my art, I see art as a way to express our identity and promote unity. My dreams include studying music professionally, spreading messages of hope and love for God, and learning from artists worldwide.
Inspired by Baba Charamba, Lucky Dube, and Peter Tosh, I advise young artists to prioritize God, avoid drugs, seek positive influences, value their time, and support others, especially the less fortunate.
