Hi, I’m Edwin, a self-taught artist born and raised in Chikore in the south of Zimbabwe. Art has always been a part of my life, inherited from my grandmother, who was a potter. Growing up in a family where no one else pursued art I found my passion early on.
Art, Colour Blindness, and Perseverance
My journey in art began with pencil sketches and developed through trial and error. With no formal training, I learnt to paint and draw through endless practice. Colour blindness was an extra challenge, but I found ways to work around it using techniques I developed myself. After leaving university due to financial constraints, I turned to art full-time. Despite the lack of art schools in my area I persisted, drawing inspiration from personal experiences and fellow artists like Israel, who mentored me in metal art.
Empowering Women and Communities
My art often reflects the struggle faced by women in our society. I use my platform to address social issues, working with disabled individuals and empowering girls through music and art. Looking towards the future I dream of establishing an art gallery in my community, a secure space where local artists can showcase their work. It’s been a journey of patience and persistence, but art has become my way of expressing myself and making a difference in my community.
Thanks for stopping by, and for your interest in my art.
