Hello, I am Charles Pariyani, also known as Zaiko, a sculptor and artist from Harare, Zimbabwe. With more than three decades of experience in the art scene, I have developed a unique style that reflects the rich culture of Zimbabwe and my deep connection to nature.
Exploring Zimbabwean Culture through Sculpture
I was born in Tafara, a neighbourhood of Harare, and discovered my passion for art and sculpture at an early age. Although my family expected me to stay in the construction industry, I decided to go my own way and became an artist. I drew my inspiration from renowned mentors such as Dominic Benhura, an artist known for his monumental sculptures. As a sculptor, I mainly work with a variety of stones, including serpentine, opal, soapstone and springstone. I transform these natural materials into unique sculptures that reflect not only the beauty of nature but also the diversity of Zimbabwean culture and social life.
Community Engagement and Social Impact
In addition to my artistic work, I am involved in the community. I visit schools and pre-schools to inspire young people for art and support them on their creative path. My aim is to promote art as a means of self-development and also as a tool for positive social change.
Thank you for visiting and for your interest in my art!
