Massey
About me
Welcome, my name is Lawrence Buda, also known as Massey. Born on February 23, 1988, I am 35 years old and grew up in Uba, now residing in Safa with my wife and two children.
From Numbers to Notes: A Self-Taught Musician’s Path from Accounting to the Stage
I studied accounting at Zimbabwe Field City and earned diplomas from Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Diploma in Accounting and Business. My musical journey, however, is self-taught, learning guitar via the internet and apps, though I’m still building confidence.
My music career began in 2000 when my brother encouraged me to join a choir. By 2003, I became a key member, recording professionally for the first time in 2006. I later joined a local band, as Crew, before going solo.
My music is inspired by life in the township, my grandfather’s stories, and my experiences with hardships and successes. Solidarity and support are central themes, as highlighted in my song “My Brother,” which has resonated widely with listeners and which became also our lead song for MutARE Tales.
Discover My Journey: From Sapa Streets to the Stage
Zimbabwean culture and my Christian faith heavily influence my art, using traditional instruments and values to address social issues. I offer vocal training and motivational support to aspiring artists, believing in the unifying power of art.
Looking forward, I plan to produce more music videos, collaborate with other artists, and engage in community projects. Inspired by artists like Bob Nyabinde and Kirk Franklin, I advise young artists to stay focused and persistent in their journeys.
Thank you for visiting and for your interest in my art!
